Men's Basketball

For us, tactics are a huge part of the type of basketball we play. We have a very high tempo offense, which involves lots of screens and movement off the ball; and a very in-your-face defence, which focuses a lot on communication, will, and desire. In practice, we work together, encourage each other, and push each other to be better. We are trained to the point where our tactics become second nature for us. So come game-time, we can execute our game plan flawlessly

Performance Sports Programme

At the University of Derby we are continually developing our sports programme. Performance Sports have been selected for 2012/2013 to attract, retain and develop student athletes from Derbyshire and beyond. Our programme will provide Performance Clubs with additional services and benefits to enhance their development and facilitate greater sporting success.

The Performance programme consists of:

  • High Performance Coaching
  • Educational Workshops
  • Performance testing
  • Strength & Conditioning Sessions
  • Physiotherapy provision
  • Reduced Team Derby Fitness gym membership
  • Scholarship opportunities

Our selected Performance Sports for 2012/2013 are:
Basketball
Badminton
Table Tennis

All sport clubs have the opportunity to become a performance sport and can apply to Team Derby for inclusion in the programme at the end of the season.

Sports Clubs must first meet a number of set criteria, which include: a substantial club development plan; community engagement initiatives; coaching/workforce development and an overall performance review.

Team Derby will also consider for inclusion sports that Derbyshire athletes have enjoyed the most success in recent years and those for which the infrastructure within Derbyshire is currently being developed (by the University, Derbyshire Institute of Sport and national sports governing bodies) to nurture and develop talent and success within the County.

Team Derby will consider all applications for inclusion in the Performance programme and select successful sports on an annual basis. The programme is limited to a number of sports to ensure that clubs have a period of time to meet expectations and develop.
