National Basketball League - 28.10.17

Team Derby were knocked off top spot by local rivals Derby Trailblazers in a thrilling 100-109 loss.
This is the first league defeat that Team Derby have suffered this season, Coach Mark Woodward said; “it was always going to be a tough game, two Derby teams playing against each other, but unfortunately it wasn’t our team that came out on top.”
The first quarter exploded into life when the trailblazers got 2 points inside the opening 20 seconds. Dan Watts, who put in a star performance, scored a two pointer to then add one on to give Team Derby a 3-2 lead on the second minute. This was the first and last rime that Derby were in the lead as a flurry of rampant Trailblazer attacks were imminent giving the Trailblazers a 15-26 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter saw a better performance from derby, including a stunning three pointer from Carson, but the score would remain in the Trailblazers favour as after every basket derby would score, the Trailblazers would go up the other end and score. The second quarter had a much tighter score line by half time, Watts scored 12 of the 30 points gained in that quarter.
The second half would be very tense with both sets of fans really getting behind the teams, it’s clear what the rivalry means to some of these fans, including the Team Derby faithful, who made the noise for the fixture and really got behind the team. The third quarter saw Team Derby still fighting for points and they gained an extra 29 points going into the final quarter.
When asked if he thought Team Derby would complete a comeback, he replied; “you always should put the belief in the boys, I thought we’d get something out of it, we tried but that sadly wasn’t enough.” The final quarter was pulsating, only a 5-point difference and despite the best of efforts from derby to win, they were no match for the fast-paced attack of the Trailblazers and so the game ended with a tight loss.
