National Basketball League - 1.10.17

A valiant Team Derby effort was unfortunately in vain against higher ranked Derbyshire Arrows, in an overtime thriller that went to the wire.
Competing in the National Cup, Team Derby recovered from deficits in each quarter including trailing by 16 points in the second to draw level and send the contest into overtime.
Captain Watts spearheaded the home side’s recovery and was at the heart of all Team Derby’s good work. Supported by the tireless Owusu-Ansah, the Team Derby applied a full court press to force Derbyshire turnovers, and set them on their way to a 12-1 run to get back in the game.

Ranked two divisions higher, Derbyshire Arrows would have been the favourites going into the contest despite Team Derby’s five successive wins in the league before the game. However, a depleted Team Derby will take a whole host of positives from this match going forwards into the league campaign, as emphasised by coach Woodhouse.
“They showed massive character. I've been looking for a game, that's going to test their characters. I wanted to see how they'd perform under adversity and you can't get anymore adverse than that.

Continuing to explain, undoubted pride in his voice “A division 2 side, with very strong with import players. The guys pushed them to overtime you can't expect more than that. We've got some experienced players. They thrive on this. Being in close games is not a concern for the rest of the season.
Despite defeat on Sunday Woodhouse spoke confidently about the season ahead. “I'm expecting us to go ahead and win the league. That's our aim and objective. If we keep performing the way we do, I think we'll go ahead and do that.”
