Get Ahead success for Team Derby

Back at the start of the term the Student Wellbeing team hosted a two day event for any student who has a disability, mental health illness, Autism/Asperger Syndrome or long term health condition.

Get Ahead aims to give our students the best possible start to their studies at the University by introducing them to a number of areas of the University including the library, halls of residences, multi-faith centre and the Sports Centre.

On Thursday 7 and Friday 8 September 2017 the students finished their busy days with a session hosted by Team Derby. As part of the event the Netball, Trampolining, Dance, Dodgeball, Cheerleading, Badminton, Ultimate Frisbee and Women’s Rugby club put on some taster sessions.

This resulted in 25 of the 48 Get Ahead students becoming members of Team Derby by either joining the Sports Centre, a club or getting involved in the occasional Social Sport.

One student said; β€œYes I’ll definitely be joining some teams, it was good to meet all the reps as they were so nice!”

Team Derby look forward to hosting the event next year and are proud to be supporting all student of all abilities to get active.
