Derby University lecturer competes in WKC World Championships

Charles Spring Senior lecturer in Wellness Management and Scarlet Brown one of his students recently attended the World Karate and Kickboxing Commission (WKC) world championships in Orlando Florida. Scarlet achieved a world championship gold medal in the Continuous Point Fighting Team event alongside team mates from the WKKC England Team. Charles Spring her coach and instructor achieved two bronze medals in individual kata and individual weapons kata (Kata are pre-set moves that simulate a fighting situation). Scarlet 11 and Charles 55 where both attending their first world championships. This crowns a year of competition success's including winning British, English and regional championship gold medals and titles. This has been topped off with both of them also achieving nominations for the Martial Arts Illustrated Hall of Fame, this is recognition by other martial artists within the community of their achievements in the past year. Both where successful at the MAI award ceremony in Burton on Trent on the 19th November getting their MAI Hall of Fame awards. Charles said ' We really have to thank our sponsors including Team Derby, without who all of our achievements would have been harder to do.'
