Louise Needham, 3rd year Biology
Volunteer Community Coach and Umpire
Louise volunteered to umpire at the Schools Into Sport event in Derby. This was an Olympic style knock-out event and provided Louise with a great opportunity to develop her umpiring skills as she had never officiated hockey before. Louise, together with three of her friends, also volunteered to coach a skills session at the University's Olympic Day, delivering various hockey skills activities which were tailored to the ages and abilities of the children taking part.
Team Derby is keen to support students and assist pro-active individuals to gain relevant coaching and officiating qualifications in order to increase the number of students and staff participating or volunteering in sport.
The Team Derby Coaching Bursary scheme has been developed to support the development of our coaches and officials through subsidising the cost of coach and volunteer education.
